Insurance & Protection

How does Rubbl protect and insure my equipment?

Protecting your equipment is our responsibility, not yours. That is why we guarantee your equipment is always returned in the same condition it was received. From specialized insurance through renter verification and inspections, we are meticulously tracking the condition and operation of your equipment throughout the rental lifecycle. Here's how it works.

Vetting the Renter

It all starts with making sure we have a responsible renter. This includes education on required daily maintenance as well as a number of insurance, credit and business verifications. Here are the steps we take to ensure our renter is qualified to rent your equipment.

Business Verification

We do not and will not rent your equipment to inexperienced weekend warriors. Period. At account signup, we vet every renter with a business verification and credit check. This immediately guarantees that we are working with a valid legal entity with a reputation to uphold. The credit check is an additional protection that makes certain the entity is in good financial and legal standing.

Liability Insurance

All renters must provide a certificate of insurance (COI) to verify proof of general liability insurance coverage. Verified proof of auto liability is also required to cover on-highway vehicles such as water trucks or dump trucks. Polices must have a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate.

Changes to renter insurance coverage is tracked and verified continuously. If a policy expires or drops below the required coverage minimums, we will contact the renter immediately.

Daily Maintenance

Operators are required to conduct a daily walk-around inspection. This inspection includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Clean radiators and air filters daily as defined by the operation manual.

  • Grease the applicable areas and attachments as defined by the operation manual.

  • Maintain the following fluid levels as defined by the operation manual
    • Hydraulic
    • Engine oil
    • Coolant
    • Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)
    • Transmission oil
    • Differential and transfer case oil

Operating Restrictions

Equipment may not be used in any underground capacity, at any superfund sites, or near any nuclear plants or exclusion zones or in any hazardous material environments. Each jobsite is approved by our equipment manager for equipment suitability.

Insurance Coverage

Accidents happen and clearly, there is no room for mistakes when it comes to protecting the equipment you depend on. There are two types of insurance that will come into play during a rental and fortunately, neither of them are provided by you, the owner. Damage insurance protects and repairs your listed equipment. Liability insurance will cover damage to everything else, like buildings, property, and people.

Damage Protection

Every rental is automatically enrolled its own damage protection policy with coverage up to $500,000. If the equipment is less than 5 years old, and a total loss occurs, the machine is replaced with the same year, model, make or newer. If the equipment is older than 5 years, an appraisal will be performed to determine reimbursement value.

Owners will receive one general certificate of insurance (COI) to cover all rental orders. The owner will be listed as loss payee and additional insured. The loss payee endorsement gives you first right to insurance claim payments after a property loss has occurred. Additional insured provides another layer of protection by extending the coverage granted to Rubbl, the primary named insured, to you as well.

Liability Insurance

As noted above, in the Business Verification section, all renters must provide a certificate of insurance (COI) to verify proof of general liability insurance coverage. Verified proof of auto liability is also required to cover on-highway vehicles such as water trucks or dump trucks. Polices must have a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate.

In addition to the renter's liability insurance, Rubbl also carries liability coverage as additional backup. The renter is always responsible for incidents on their job site and will always provide the primary coverage. In the event their coverage reaches its maximum, the Rubbl liability insurance will kick in.

Now, it's no secret that legal groups like to involve as many people as possible and nothing can 100% guarantee we will not be dragged into a dispute. To this end, Rubbl strongly recommends that you, the owner, also carry general liability insurance in the sufficient amounts list above.

Inspections

A core promise to you as an owner, is that equipment will be returned in the same condition it left. In order to facilitate this, inspection checkpoints are enforced at several transitions during the rental cycle. When an inspection is due, Rubbl sends an email and text notification to the owner or renter. Inspections are performed right on your mobile phone and will require detailed photos and video. Once an inspection is completed, a Rubbl equipment manager will review it carefully to identify any issues or discrepancies with the previous inspection.

For more information about inspections, including the different types of information collected, see Inspections Overview

Preventative Maintenance

Equipment managers know that a solid maintenance program is key to keeping the fleet healthy. And everybody knows that timely maintenance is not high on the priority list for rented equipment. This is not a problem on Rubbl because we track, provide, and coordinate for all standard 250 hour service intervals while out on rent. We use a proprietary device that clips to the equipment battery to track engine utilization. Once the equipment reaches 200 hours, an equipment manager is notified and service is scheduled accordingly.

Theft & Location Security

Renting out your equipment can cause a little anxiety, and for good reason. Before being released on rent, all equipment is bugged with a proprietary GPS device. This device is compatible with your existing OEM telematics system and can be quickly installed and removed from your equipment. If the device is removed or disabled, an equipment manager will be notified within seconds and the renter will be contacted. Under no circumstance is this device allowed to be tampered with by the renter. If your equipment is being operated in remote areas with limited cellular access, there is a backup satellite network. Our device has been thoroughly tested in both tough and remote terrain and we have the ability to play back an entire rental if necessary.
